Latest news For Pigs Golf Society Worcester

The “ ROCK “ takes BLACKPOOL Honours.

Four fantastic days of glorious PIGS weather highlighted yet another wonderful tour.

Steve McCarthy took the early part of the weeks honours when coming home with 41 points at Blackpool North Shore golf club, (not a tree in sight) to pip Alan Dale on a back nine count back. Paul Duffy finished in 3rd place with 39 points. The team score at end of day one was Dales Dicks 5½ – Willys Willys 5.

Day two brought the PIGS to the best course of the week St Anne’s old links which saw 4 of the 5, 4 ball better ball, matches all reach the 17th hole. This helped Dales Dicks extend there lead to 11½ - 9.

Day three took us across the estuary from Fleetwood to Knott End golf club, a course in pretty good condition & well-maintained but rather dangerous in places. However the 5 match play games all went to the final hole with both teams sharing the points 5 each to bring the overall result to 16½ - 14.

The final day took us to Lytham Green Drive golf club (just down the road from Royal Lytham & St Anne’s) a wonderful parkland course which everyone enjoyed. Once again fantastic weather saw Tony Williams put the ROCK back in Blackpool with a premier victory which Towered over everyone to win the day with 40 points. Mike Alldritt was 2nd winning yet again on count back over Guy Taylor both on 37 points.(oddly both had there handicaps increased after day one. ! !)  The final team result was Dales Dicks 22½ - Willys Willys 18½.

Tony’s consistency (or maybe more sleep) on the stableford days & winning both his matchplay games gave him an overall 81 points to win the individual player of the week. Alan Dale came 2nd with 77 points (would I mention anything about handicaps) Steve Mac was 3rd (74 points) & Paul Duffy 4th on 72.

Many thanks to Guy for all the work he did in arranging the trip.

The North coast of Devon looks favourite for 2011.

Ladbrook Park Golf Club.    Portobello Open.   Wednesday 21st July.

I am told this is one of the finest golf courses in the midlands. It is the first of the two up market courses we visit each season & the committee have agreed to subsidise the day. Mark Dewey & Mike Dandey have agreed to donate prizes. Therefore the cost is £45 for the day. Rolls / Coffee at 10-00. First Tee at 11-00. 2 Course dinner following golf. YOUR BUDDY WILL CONTACT YOU. If he hasn’t already

Money Update.

Overall the position is sound at £713-92 plus we have £200 on deposits, however we have just paid £430 to Mark for the ties, in addition we estimate Ladbrook Park will cost us around £80 in subsidy’s. Therefore our floating cash will around £200.

Ties.

It took us the best part of at least 10 years to get a PIGS tie, thanks to Mark Dewey for sticking at it. Now they have finally arrived they look brilliant & I know will be of superb credit to our golf society. Andrew Marsh has kindly offered to take responsibility for sales & distribution; they are just £10 each. I know Andrew has sold quite a few already. Please speak to him to reserve yours, we will be wearing them at Ladbrook Park.

PIGS v St Johns WMC on Tuesday 3rd August at Boughton Park.

We have finally agreed the format for this year. We will play a combined stableford score in pairs on matchplay hole-by-hole basis. E.g. player A for the PIGS scores 2 points & player B scores 3. Total 5. Players for St Johns total 4. Hole won by PIGS pair, 1 up. I hope that makes sense.

We think we will have approx 20 players on each side & about 50 % of us & 75 % of St Johns are club members, therefore we feel approx 16 players will have to be paid for @ £18 each, divided between everyone it will be around £7 to £8 each. In addition we will have Bacon Rolls / Coffee plus 2 course meal following match @ approx £15. The day will cost £23 to £24 each.

The first Tee is at 1-30 pm therefore we are asking you to be there between 12-30 & 1-00pm.

There is not much time after Ladbrook Park so please can you confirm with your Buddy ASAP.

Singles.

Round 2 matches must be completed by 21st July. I have e mailed those concerned.
